Le cortisol est l'hormone glucocorticoide principale secretee par le cortex surrenalien en réponse au stress physique et psychologique. Catabolique a l'exces, il degrade les proteines musculaires et inhibe la synthese proteique. Chez le sportif, un cortisol chroniquement eleve est un signe de surentraînement ou de recuperation insuffisanté.

Cortisol is the primary glucocorticoid hormone secreted by the adrenal cortex in response to physical and psychological stress. Catabolic in excess, it breaks down muscle proteins and inhibits protein synthesis. In athlètes, chronically elevated cortisol is a sign of overtraining or insufficient recovery.

Le cortisol suit un rythme nycthemeral marque: prelevement le matin a jeun imperatif. Un seul dosage isole a peu de valeur; preferer un profil circadien. L'exercice intense augmente transitoirement le cortisol. Interpreter en contexte clinique.
Cortisol follows a marked circadian rhythm: morning fasting sample is mandatory. A single isolated measurement has little value; prefer a circadian profile. Intense exercise transiently increases cortisol. Interpret in clinical context.
